My Word for 2019 (Callie)

Ok, so you’ve all seen the goals and “word for the year” posts by everyone else. They roll out at the start of every year.

Sticking with my typical style, I’m rolling mine out a little bit late. “Why?” you might ask. Well, in full disclosure, I am who I am. I’m known to run a bit behind.

A 3,000 mile round-trip trek across the country right at the end of the year  didn’t help anything.  Once we returned home, I just needed time to settle what exactly I wanted to see happen in 2019. I started praying and reading my Bible to seek exactly what my focus should be on. It took me a little while to nail down exactly what I wanted to refine.

It is most definitely not from a lack of things to work on!😁 In fact, quite the opposite. I have a huge list of things I needed to work on.

However, if there’s anything I’ve learned in my short 31 years, it’s the fact that I try and do too much. Anyone relate?✋🏼 Oh yes. I bite off way more than I can chew. I knew I needed to get specific and hone in on one theme idea that could transfer across multiple areas.

So, I finally landed on the word.

I wish I could take credit. However, it was actually planted in my ear by a friend who works on a leadership team for the Southwest Ladies Conference. The theme for their 2019 conference is “Flourish.” I immediately loved it. The longer I thought about it, the more I loved it for a personal motivation.

I have so many hats I wear as Christian lady. Within each of those roles, I have multiple areas that require my attention. I have put different amounts of work into each of those areas over the years, but if I’m being honest, I became stagnant in 2018. Plenty of reasons why, but none of them matter. At the end of the day, I’m just at a place where I have simply been surviving life. That’s definitely not how I want it to be!

The definition of flourish is to grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment.

Yup. That’s what I want.

I think of flowers when I think of the word flourish. When a plant is flourishing there is a beauty and vibrancy that simply isn’t there when the plant is merely surviving. I’m not talking death. Dead plants simply have stopped growth all together and are producing nothing. I’m not experience death in any of my roles. I just need to be flourishing.

In order to flourish, you have to take consistent, specific actions. So, I’ve been mulling over what those actions are for each of my roles and how to start implementing them with consistency.

I will share each area specifically over the next several weeks, but I will list them down below.

In the meantime, comment and tell me what your roles are right now in life and if you have a word for the year!

My Roles to flourish in:

  • Child of God
  • Marriage
  • Motherhood
  • Ministry
  • Business Owner
